Welcome to Mobility & Motivation Lab!
What impacts our motivation to move?
In Mobility & Motivation Lab at San Diego State University, we study the behavioral, psychological, and neurobiological factors that influence motivation for mobility. Particularly, we investigate how feelings of fatigue (aka subjective fatigue) affect mobility and motivation in aging and neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease.
Our research combines experimental tasks (e.g., effort-based decision-making), biomechanics (e.g., gait analysis), physiology (e.g., electromyography and indirect calorimetry), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). By uncovering the mechanisms of these processes, we aim to develop mechanism-driven, personalized interventions to promote mobility and safe movement.
